Reflecting on Brave Women
Last week marked the anniversary of Julia Gillard’s iconic speech addressing misogyny. On October 9, 2012, Julia Gillard bravely confronted the sexism and misogyny she endured as Australia’s prime minister, echoing the experiences of countless women in their daily lives and professional paths. It was a pivotal moment, showcasing a woman powerfully expressing her frustration and urging higher standards of behaviour.
On the same day, October 9, 2012, a young girl advocating for women’s and girls’ rights was tragically attacked for her activism. More than a decade has passed since Malala Yousafzai was on her school bus journey home when she was shot in the head by the Taliban in a failed attempt to silence her. Far from suppressing her voice, Malala has emerged as one of the most influential and motivating champions for education and the rights of women and girls.
In an era where the pursuit of equality and the breaking down of age-old barriers have never been more critical, I reflect on these women’s bravery and feel privileged to work within an organisation where strong female leadership is not just a buzzword but a reality. Having women at the helm of departments and welcome at every table is a constant reminder of the invaluable perspectives, resilience, and innovative thinking they bring to the fold.
Throughout history, women have consistently played pivotal roles in shaping societies, and at GroundProbe, this legacy of impactful contributions by women is deeply respected and recognized. GroundProbe’s steadfast dedication to the upliftment and advancement of women demonstrated through initiatives such as round tables, networking platforms, and tailored professional development programs, speaks volumes about its core beliefs. By fostering such an inclusive atmosphere, GroundProbe is not only honouring the past but also charting a path toward a more balanced and flourishing tomorrow.
