GroundProbe, Orica and STEM Punks® join forces to teach STEM to schools in Latin America
GroundProbe has joined forces with Orica and STEM Punks® to teach science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to schools and communities in Latin America.
The trio came together after STEM Punks® was awarded $300,000 over three years through the Orica Impact Fund to deliver the highly successful STEM Punks® program to more than 10 regional schools in Peru, Colombia, and Chile over the next three years. The program will assist in the upskilling of a core group of local educators through the widespread school-community uptake of the program.
GroundProbe’s Chief Executive Officer, David Noon, said, …
“We are immensely proud to have facilitated the grant and to be working with STEM Punks® on their mission to inspire future innovators.”
“By providing immersive and fun learning experiences backed by a deep transfer of knowledge, the program will make it easy for these young students to learn 21st-century skills and, importantly, fall in love with STEM.
“Our joint aim is to leave a living legacy behind that will serve the students, the educators, and the community for years beyond the completion of the program.”
STEM Punks® has developed and delivered award-winning STEM programs to students and teachers across the globe, with programs already underway in Australia, Ghana and Vietnam. The team will use the lessons learned from these successes as a blueprint for delivering the LATAM program.
STEM Punks® CEO, Michael Holmstrom believes that STEM education should be available to everyone.
“There is a lack of equity and equality in education, specifically STEM educational resources, in regional and underserved communities, and we want to address that.
“The program focuses on delivering local capability with the tools and knowledge needed to implement rich learning experiences, not just for today, but into the future.
“We estimate the program in LATAM will impact more than 5,000 young students and believe the subsequent knock-on effect will continue to positively impact the broader local community, including parents, guardians, and siblings.
“We believe so many people will benefit from this amazing opportunity.”
Program development for the LATAM roll-out is well underway, with local schools and teachers in Peru, Colombia and Chile about to begin their professional development and training journey.
