GroundProbe Hosts Geotechnical Monitoring Workshop in Peru
GroundProbe’s Peru office recently held a Geotechnical Monitoring Workshop for their customers, with guest speakers from GroundProbe, Orica and 3vGeomatics presenting across a range of topics.
The event was well attended with 55 representatives from GroundProbe’s customer mine sites across Peru taking part in the workshop.
“Held in Arequipa, Peru, this city was chosen as the venue for the workshop as mining is an integral part of the history and culture of the region,” said Antonio Rocha, GroundProbe’s Business Manager for Brazil, Peru and Colombia.
“The city has been home to a large number of mining activities and mining companies over the years, including Cerro Verde.”
Mr Rocha opened the workshop by providing a brief presentation on GroundProbe’s recent acquisition by Orica and the combined market offerings of the two companies; geotechnical monitoring solutions and blast optimisation systems.
Orica’s Country Manager for Peru, Gustavo Costa, also provided a brief introduction of Orica’s products, services and overall presence in Peru.
GroundProbe’s Sales and Contracts Manager for Peru and Colombia, Jersaín Meza, then gave a presentation on our industry-disrupting convergence monitoring solution, the GML-Underground.
“The GML-Underground is capable of detecting rock and ground support movement with sub-millimetre accuracy and offers a range of unprecedented features and benefits for underground monitoring,” said Jersaín Meza.
“Boasting unrivalled precision, the GML provides sub-millimetre accuracy of 0.01mm to 0.4mm, making it 170 times more accurate than competing systems on the market.”
This was followed up by a presentation on GroundProbe’s latest long-term, background monitoring solution, the GMS; presented by GroundProbe’s Group Geotechnical Sales Specialist, Albert Cabrejo.
Following lunch, a number of presentations were made by GroundProbe staff on our latest software, hardware and services updates; including Technical Services Manager for Brazil, Peru and Colombia, João Paulo, who presented on the topic of customer support structures and GroundProbe’s high KPI’s with regard to maintaining and sustaining our fleet of slope monitoring solutions.
3vGeomatics’ President, Adrian McCardle, then provided a presentation on the applications and benefits of satellite InSAR monitoring as a complementary solution to ground-based monitoring hardware.
Finally, Orica’s Solutions Specialist Lead, José Vergara Mella, gave a presentation on the value proposition of the combination of GroundProbe and Orica solutions.
The event concluded with a general discussion amongst attendees and drinks.
“The workshop received a great number of attendees and the feedback towards the presentations provided was extremely positive,” said Antonio Rocha.
“During the workshop we were also able to both present and demonstrate the uses of GML-Underground and the GMS directly to our customers.
“These latest laser-based monitoring solutions generated a large amount of interest from our customers at the workshop, who had plenty of questions and comments during each of the presentations.”
