GroundProbe’s SSR-Omni Wins 2019 Good Design Award
The winners of Australia’s peak industry design awards – the Good Design Awards– the highest honour for design and innovation in the country, were announced at The Star on 11th July at the 61st annual Good Design Awards ceremony in Sydney.
GroundProbe’s SSR-Omni received a prestigious Good Design Award in the Product Design category in recognition of design excellence and outstanding innovation. The award was won by GroundProbe and their design partners, Designworks and Clandestine Design Group. This is the third Good Design Award GroundProbe has received since 2011, for three separate products, including a coveted Good Design Best-in-Class Award for the Geotechnical Monitoring Station (GMS) last year.
“This year’s award for our newest radar – the SSR-Omni – recognises the high quality of industrial design we strive for,” said Lachlan Campbell, GroundProbe’s VP of Marketing and Innovation.
“Our continual acknowledgement by the Good Design Awards demonstrates the ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence by our in-house design team, as well as our design partners.”
For GroundProbe, their customers are at the forefront of how they approach design.
“We actively engage with our customers throughout all stages of the product design and development lifecycle to deliver innovative solutions that meet their needs,” said Mr Campbell.
“It’s what makes our products relevant, drives our success and allows us to turn complex information into something that’s easily understood.”
This year’s Good Design Awards attracted a record number of entrants with close to 700 individual designs submitted for judging, smashing last year’s previous record of just over 500 entries.
“GroundProbe’s success is greatly helped by the location of our product development team and production factory in a single location in Brisbane, which is close to both our mining sector customer base and our university and research partners,” said Brian Gillespie, GroundProbe’s Chief Executive Officer.
“Brisbane is a rapidly developing and expanding hub for technology and innovation, especially across the IT, engineering and mechatronic sectors.”
“All these factors provide the perfect environment for GroundProbe to grow and succeed well into the future,” said Mr Gillespie.
The annual Good Design Awards is Australia’s most prestigious awards for design and innovation with a proud history dating back to 1958. The awards celebrate the best new products and services on the market, excellence in architectural design, digital and communication design, and reward emerging areas of design including business model innovation, social impact and design entrepreneurship.
“Receiving a Good Design Award at this level is a significant achievement given the very high calibre of entries received this year,” said Dr. Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia.
“Australia’s Good Design Award is more than a symbol of design excellence; it represents the hard work and dedication towards an innovative outcome that will ultimately improve our quality of life.”
Every year, Good Design Australia invites renowned design experts from Australia and around the world to participate in the evaluation and judging process.
The Good Design Awards jury praised the SSR-Omni, commenting that it was “a good incremental innovation to prevent safety concerns in the mine site with effective features including usability, tele-connection, ID and reliability.
“Overall, [it]… is a beautifully resolved product that ticks every box for good design.”
