Meet Our People: Rachmat Musa, Global Practice Lead – Remote Monitoring

What is your name?

My name is Rachmat Musa. I am the Global Practice Lead – Remote Monitoring at GroundProbe.

How long have you been working for GroundProbe?

11 years.

What makes your job unique?

I work with talented Geotechnical Support Services (GSS) Geotechnical Engineers and Radar Operators from around the world to provide remote and onsite service to some of the most challenging mines in the world. What we do contributes to keeping people and communities safe 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As a team, we have detected over 5,000 slope failures since starting the remote monitoring service in 2015. Our essential work would be impossible without passion, discipline, responsibility, and care for using GroundProbe’s technologies to make mining safer, more profitable, and sustainable.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am a Mining Engineer who studied at Hasanuddin University with a Master of Mining Engineering from UPN Veteran University Indonesia. I began my career as an engineering geologist at a consulting company working in remote areas of Indonesia. In deciding to gain exposure to mining, I moved to open pit coal operation as a Geotechnical Engineer for almost three years.

I joined GroundProbe as Geotechnical Data Analyst in 2012 as one of the founding employees in Indonesia. Since then, I have led the growth and expansion of the Indonesian Geotechnical Team to provide global remote monitoring services from the Balikpapan Remote Monitoring Centre. In 2021 the centre expanded its services to include Chile and Brazil – that’s when I became Global Practice Lead Remote Monitoring.

Why do you love what you do?

GroundProbe has allowed me to visit many places around the world, learn about different cultures, make new friends, feel extreme weather conditions, and experience many varied foods – things I would never have experienced otherwise. These experiences have taught me to be more grateful and open-minded toward the differences that make us unique.

The best part of working at GroundProbe is living out my passion for helping people. I contribute by leading the global team to keep miners safe, so they can focus on their work knowing that the slope wall near them is being remotely monitored by the competent team from our global monitoring centre. Plus, we are regularly rewarded with invaluable customer feedback that our early warning about slope movement successfully averted casualties.
