GroundProbe Opens Larger, More Advanced Geotechnical Support Centre in Balikpapan, Indonesia
Following the expansion of our office in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, earlier this month, today we celebrate the relocation of our office and Geotechnical Support Service (GSS) centre in Balikpapan, Indonesia.
GroundProbe’s GSS unit – our world-class global support network that assists our customers with effective slope stability and underground risk management through comprehensive technical support – now celebrates 10 years of services in Indonesia – having first established a centre in 2012 with one engineer.
We are proud to announce the office has grown exponentially to 63 geotechnical engineers, monitoring 114 systems from 13 stations, 24/7. More than one-third are female geotechnical engineers.
The Balikpapan remote monitoring centre has been developed with high-tech infrastructure to ensure smooth support delivery (and collaboration opportunities) to our global customers, as well as designed to facilitate software development and technology implementation in the Asia region.
The success of the original Balikpapan centre provided a model for the addition of two remote monitoring centres in Santiago, Chile and Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Globally, GroundProbe’s GSS team – one of the largest assembled teams of geotechnical mining professionals in the world – has grown to 124 engineers providing 24/7 services in four languages. Our talented team has reported over 60,000 total alarms, and most importantly, provided early warning to mine sites for 2,000 slope failures.
Celebrating today’s event, David Noon, GroundProbe’s Chief Executive Officer said, “We are proud of our accomplishments here in Indonesia and look forward to providing our valued Southeast Asian customers with even more expert GSS support during this time of rapid growth across the mining sector, specifically the rising importance placed on tailings dam monitoring.”
GroundProbe’s purpose every day is to create and apply innovative technologies that deliver high-value information to our customers, helping them to better manage risk. To this, we look forward to a continued focus on assisting Indonesian miners in keeping themselves and the wider community safe.
